The institution of MALTI GYAN PEETH PURASKAR Award was announced during 90th. Birthday Celebrations of Smt. Malti Mohinder Singh Syngle (Mataji), Eminent Educationist & Social Worker, on May-29, 2011, at New Delhi.
Shri Manoj Singhal, President of Mohinder Singh Syngle Education & Research Society (Regd.), and Chairman & Managing Director, MM Auto Industries Ltd., originator of the concept of Award, while paying tributes to respected Mataji, said:
“Today on Mataji’s 90th. Birthday, I am happy to announce, on behalf of Mohinder Singh Syngle Education & Research Society, ‘MALTI GYAN PEETH PURASKAR. This would be felicitation to those who have dedicated their lives to the field of education. In this form among the teachers teaching in girls schools in the entire State of Punjab. One teacher each from the field of Physics, Chemistry, Maths, English & Social Studies, will be selected on the basis of their performance and would be honoured every year on Mataji’s birthday, with Rs. ONE LAC. in cash and a ROBE of HONOUR & Certificate of Excellence to each one. This would be done in close coordination with the Govt. of Punjab.”
Initially in 2013, the Award was given to 5 teachers selected from girls high and higher secondary schools in Punjab.
During 2014 scope was expanded and Award given to 15 teachers.
In 2015 the scope has been further expanded to cover all Govt. High & Higher Secondary girls, boys, co-ed schools in Punjab and select 15 outstanding teachers.
It is the intention, desire, plan and vision of the Society to extend the scope of “Malti Gyanpeeth Puraskar” nationally & internationally for Excellence in Academics, Research & Innovations, on the pattern of Rhode Foundation of USA Awards & Scholarships scheme. The Awards would be given annually, as long as the Society exists.
Smt. Malti Mohinder Singh Syngle, is a renowned Educationist, who tirelessly worked for over four decades, educating the girl child, especially in the State of Punjab. She retired from active Govt. service in the year 1980. Even after retirement, she, in her 95th year now, continues her efforts unabated for spread of education, especially for under privileged students in the rural sector. She was one of the first women in Punjab to achieve Degree of “Bachelor of Teaching” in the year 1951. Prior to that she did her Post Graduation in 1948.
It is his passion for development of education for benefit of the deprived that Shri Manoj Singhal, founded Mohinder Singh Syngle Education & Research Society in the year 2003 for promotion of high quality world class education in various fields, for rural youth, at affordable cost. The society is registered in 2003 under society registration ACT XXI of 1860.
The Society established M and M Educational Campus, in 2005, on a 22 acre site, in the rural surroundings of Dist. Sangrur. Sangrur has special significance in the life of Shri Manoj Singhal, the land of several generations of his fore fathers. Shri Singhal’s Grand Father, Lala Nathu Lal Ji Syngle was the Nazim (Collector) of the pre-1947 State of Jeend (now Jind), having capital at Sangrur. Shri Manoj Singhal’s intense desire was to pay back from his success story, to the area, where his roots belonged to.
Today, the M and M Educational Campus at Village Nagri is vibrating with a CBSE affiliated English Medium (10+2) School, College of Education for B.Ed. degree (affiliated to Punjabi University & NCTE approved). The Society has ambitious plans to establish more Institutes for specialized learning in higher education fields as well as Skills Development Programs for Rural Youth with employability potential.
The first Award presentation ceremony was organized on 92nd Birthday Celebrations of Smt. Malti Mohinder Singh Syngle, on Wednesday, May-29, 2013, at a glittering ceremony in presence of jam packed audience at Sirifort Auditorium, New Delhi. The Society had the unique privilege of august presence and presentation of Awards by the Chief Guest Shri L K Advani, Senior Statesman & Former Dy. Prime Minister of India and S. Sukhbir Singh Badal, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab as Guest of Honour and S. Sikander Singh Maluka, Hon’ble Education Minister – Punjab and other Dignitaries. During the 2013 Award ceremony, S. Sukhbir Singh Badal, Hon’ble Dy. Chief Minister of Punjab was highly impressed and announced the Award to be adopted as recognised Punjab State Govt. Award, Punjab Govt. Schools education Dept. is actively involved in the initial selection process.
The Ceremony was a glittering, Star studded function, held on May-29, 2014 at FICCI Auditorium, New Delhi. The Awards to 15 Teachers were presented by the Chief Guest, Shri M. Hamid Ansari Hon’ble Vice President of India, in presence of high level dignitaries. Details of Awards and Jury in the souvenir.
The Contestants were recommended by Govt. of Punjab, Education Department after initial selection at their end. Candidates were interviewed in depth at Hotel Taj Chandigarh and awardees selected after intense scrutiny and interview by eminent Jury as per details in the Souvenir.
The Ceremony was a glittering, Star studded function, held on May-29, 2015 at FICCI Auditorium, New Delhi. The Awards to 15 Teachers were presented by the Chief Guest, DR. APJ ABDUL KALAM Hon.’ble Former President OF India, and Guest of Honour SARDAR PARKASH SINGH BADAL, Hon.’ble Chief Minister, Punjab in presence of high level dignitaries. Function was of 94th Birthday celebrations of Smt. Malti Mohinder Singh Syngle, (Respected Mata Ji) one of the last functions Blessed by Dr. Kalam.

Pre-selection process by Punjab Govt. School Education Department.
a) Contestant Lecturers / Teachers would be selected for FIVE SUBJECTS i.e. Physics; Chemistry; Mathematics ; English; Social Science.
b) Opportunity would be provided to meritorious Lecturers / Teachers from all Government (Boys/Girls/ Co-ed) High & Higher Secondary Schools, in all 22 Districts of Punjab
a) District Level Selection would be done as per established criteria of the Punjab Govt. School Education Department, under over all guidance & control of DPI (Schools).
b) Ideally 1 contestant per subject from each of the 22 Districts would be selected. Total 110 candidates to appear before Jury, for final selection of 15 Awardees. Or 22 Candidates per subject. In other words, 7 candidates per Award, for selection in each subject by Jury.
03. In order to offer fair opportunity to High & Higher Secondary School Contestants, the Candidates would be recommended, as under:

a) The Department of Public Instruction (Schools) –Punjab would recommend up to 110 District Level Contestants latest by April – 25, 2016, approved by DPI – S and keep their Profile Files ready for final selection of the Jury. .
b) The Department would also handover the Subject-wise summarized list of Contestants, graded as per merit, with address, e-mail, Cell No. etc. to MSS E&R Society, by the said date.
05, Wednesday, May – 04, 2016 is fixed for final selection by Jury at CII Centre, Sec. - 31, Chandigarh. Candidates have to report at 9.00 am.
Final 15 Awardees would be selected by the eminent Jury nominated by the MSS E&R Society (Regd.) as per criteria set for the Jury.
a) Malti Gyan Peeth Puraskar 2016 is open to teachers, teaching in all Government High & Higher Secondary Schools (BOYS- GIRLS-CO-ED) in all the 22 revenue districts of the State of Punjab. Subject to pre-selection by Punjab Govt. School Education Department as per details highlighted against III, above.
b) 5 Awardees of Malti Gyan peeth Puraskar – 2013 Edition and 15 Awardees of 2014 & 2015 edition would not be eligible to contest again.
c) Guest Teachers / Contract & Temporary Teachers / Teachers retiring in next three months or just retired teachers would not be eligible to contest or considered.
d) 15 Awards would be sponsored and managed by Mohinder Singh Syngle Education & Research Society (Regd.), New Delhi.
e) The Awards in 2016 would be given, as per number indicated for each of the subjects, as per details against III, above.
f) Each School entitled to recommend only one Contestant per Subject.
g) Each School is entitled to recommend one Contestant per subject, for all the five subjects, if eligible and in case shortlisted by D.E.O. LEVEL COMMITTEE.
h) Department of School Education, Govt. of Punjab, would forward to the Society, Profiles of up to 110 Teachers for selection of 15 Awardees, as detailed against III
i) Director- Public Instruction (Schools) of the Punjab Government Education would certify authenticity of the information submitted and eligibility of the Contestant, as per laid out criteria, in a covering letter attached with the recommended list.
a) The learned Jury for 2016 consists of 12 eminent and well known personalities from the field of academics, bureaucracy, industry, social work etc. as per details attached.
b) Selection Criteria, as set up by the Society is indicated above & here below given, as Guideline for the Jury. Additionally, the Jury Members can adopt any other tool for assessing and selecting The most deserving teachers for the Awards, based on their respective & collective wisdom, prudence and experience.
c) The Jury would send joint recommendation of 15 selected teachers to the Mohinder Singh Syngle Education & Research Society (Regd.).
d) In case of any division of opinion, or otherwise, the Governing Body of Mohinder Singh Syngle Education & Research Society would be the final deciding authority.
a) Any kind of recommendation, canvassing or attempt to influence any member of the Jury, or adopting any unfair or unethical means to push forward his or her candidature, by any contestant , would amount to summary disqualification.
b) Information submitted in the Contestant’s profile should be authentic and based on facts and actual achievements. In case of detection of any wrong information, the contestant would be disqualified.
c) Any Candidate having a criminal case pending against him or her would not be eligible for evaluation.
d) Candidates involved in any kind of political activity, would not be considered.
e) Awardees of 2013, 2014 & 2015 editions would not be eligible to contest.
a) The Contestant should be Graduate with B.Ed. degree, having scored minimum of 55% aggregate marks, in both the degrees.
b) The Contestants should have minimum 5 (five) years of experience in teaching the particular subject, in a Govt. High or Higher Secondary School, in the State of Punjab.
c) The Contestant should have consistent track record of 100% pass percentage of students, in last five academic years, at Board level, in the relevant subject.
d) The Contestant should have high level of knowledge of the particular subject.
e) The Contestant should be research oriented, innovative, having high IQ level.
f) The Contestant should be devoted & dedicated for shaping young minds.
g) The Contestant should have developed a rapport with students in true “Guru-Shishya Parampara.”
h) The Contestant should have proven track record of counselling and guiding students in developing human values, good personality, imbibing culture of social work, respect for the nation, respect for religions and national integration. Besides, helping in extra curricular activities like declamation contests, recreation & sports.
i) The Contestant would have never indulged in physical punishment as a tool to reform erring students.
j) Contestant can give any other detail about achievements etc., which could strengthen the Contestant’s selection process.
k) Contestants short listed for personal interview, would be asked to submit in own hand writing, two test of not more than 250 words, in 30 minutes each, at the time of personal interview, topics would be announced on the spot.
l) Working knowledge of Computer operations (E-mail, Word, Excel, Power Point) etc. and immaculate English (written & spoken) would be indicators about the Contestants openness for learning and change, which in turn would have an impact on shaping up of students under the Contestant teacher’s charge.
Evaluation process is completed on the day of final selection by the Jury, Results announced, participation and award letters given same day.
Each Awardee would get Rupees One Lac., Certificate of Excellence, a Robe of Honour & a Medal at a glittering ceremony, to be held in New Delhi, on 95th. Birthday Celebrations of Smt, Malti Mohinder Singh Syngle on May 29th 2016, We are very glad to mention that Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Hon’ble President of India has kindly consented to present Malti Gyan Peeth Puruskar – 2016 to the Awardees at a special ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi. Between 1300 – 1400 Hrs. on Sunday, May – 29th, 2016.
